If you have injured yourself and require some first aid, go to the Walk-in Centre or Minor Injuries Unit.

Injuries such as these, provided they are not life-threatening, are better treated away from A&E and help keep the Emergency Department clear for those who need urgent treatment.

You may even be seen to quicker by visiting the Walk-in Centre or Minor Injuries Unit.




 

Adults or children who have minor injuries, for example suspected fractures or scalds and minor burns, can attend the a Minor Injuries Unit or Walk-in Centre.

Southampton's Minor Injury Unit and Walk-in Centre are open 365 days a year and provide treatment for less serious injuries, such as sprains, cuts and grazes. Many people go to Accident and Emergency (A&E) with minor injuries, when they could be usually treated much more quickly at a minor injuries unit or walk-in centre.

In A&E staff must give priority to serious and life-threatening conditions, so if you go there with a minor injury, you may have to wait a long time to be seen.

If your injury is not serious, it’s usually better for you to go to a Walk-in Centre or Minor Injuries Unit.


You do not need an appointment to visit a minor injuries unit. They are run by a team of highly qualified nurse practitioners who have experience and expertise in treating minor injuries.


Southampton's Walk-in Centre is based at Bitterne Health Centre, while a Minor Injuries Unit is available in the Fanshawe Wing of the RSH Hospital.

From 6 June 2011, Bitterne Walk-in Centre's opening times will be limited to Monday-Friday 6.30pm-10.30pm, Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays 8.30am-10pm. The last patient on each day will be booked in at 9.30pm
