Hayfever

Choose Well Light Green 2010

For hayfever, or any other minor allergy, pick up treatments at your nearest pharmacy.

Most antihistamines are available without a prescription, so there's no need to visit a GP before you go.

Remember to check the label before dosage and ask your pharmacist if unsure.

If symptoms persist and/or worsen,  book in with your GP.

As well as dispensing prescriptions, pharmacists provide a range of services related to specific health issues and can advise on minor ailments such as colds, skin conditions and allergies.

Other services include emergency contraception, truss fittings and incontinence supplies.

Pharmacists can give you detailed advice on your medicine, provide treatment for common health problems and give healthy lifestyle advice. They could save you a trip to your GP, or help you live a healthier life.

Your pharmacist can also offer repeat dispensing services. You get a prescription from your GP for up to a year and then visit your pharmacy for a month’s supply of your medication.

Many pharmacies now also offer a Medicines Use Review, where you can discuss what you are taking, when you should be taking it, and any side effects you might be concerned about.

Choose Well helps you decide what sort of medical help you require and provides information about the local NHS services available to you.

It also gives you details about what each service offers you, how to contact them and how to find them, should you need to travel to them.

It's important to know the correct services to use in Southampton. By using the right level of treatment, you have a better chance of being treated quickly and ensuring priority services are given to those who need them the most.
