Smoking

Cruise Ship Smoker
Some of the city’s biggest killers are cancers and illnesses obtained through smoking. The Department of Health estimates that at least 100,000 people in the UK die every year as a result of smoking. Cigarettes produce tar, nicotine and carbon monoxide, which affect the throats, lung, arteries and heart.

Because of the serious long-term health problems associated with smoking, we would urge anyone to consider the benefits of giving up – not only will your health improve as a result, but you will also be helping your friends and family by stopping the second-hand smoke. You will also see the financial benefits of the money saved from not having to buy cigarettes.

The good news is that there are a number of tried and tested methods to help you quit. While willpower is always a requirement, we have the means and support available to give you the support and advice to cut down and give up permanently.

Solent Healthcare provides the Southampton Quitters service, which helped nearly 2,000 people permanently quit smoking in 2008/2009 alone.
