Every day
in Southampton, one teenager falls pregnant.
The city has a high teenage conception rate, but 49 out of 1000 teenage girls
conceived in 2007 (with a national average of 41.7) was an improvement of
previous years, and NHS Southampton City
aims to work harder to find new means of educating and treating young people in
Southampton.
The
Protect Yourself campaign was launched to provide more accessible means of
engagement to give young people in Southampton
advice on contraception and also how to find their nearest sexual health
clinics.
-
Always talk about
contraception with your partner – ensure there are methods to prevent both
unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections.
-
Make an appointment with a
sexual health clinic to discuss contraception or get checked. It’s
completely confidential and free to use.
-
Use the contraception
provided every time. Make sure to check the contraception is being used
correctly.
For more information, where to find clinics, advice, support and information, visit the
Protect Yourself website.
