That’s the question from the Southampton, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Portsmouth PCT Cluster with 113 dental practices across the area currently accepting new NHS patients.
“A few years ago finding and registering with a NHS dentist was very difficult. However, the PCTs have all invested additional funding and provided thousands of extra spaces by opening new practices, expanding current practices, introducing mobile services in rural areas and increasing the domiciliary treatment available for patients who need to be seen in their own home,” said Natalie Jones, head of dental services for the Southampton, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Portsmouth PCT Cluster. “If you aren’t with a NHS dentist and would like to be, but haven’t tried to register in the last year I would urge you to contact the Dental Helpline to find out what is available in your local area.”
“It is important to remember that you should visit a dentist regularly and not just when you are in pain or have a dental problem,” explained Natalie. “One of the best and easiest ways to make sure your teeth and gums are healthy is having a good dental care routine and registering and regularly visiting your NHS dentist plays a key role in this.”
Across the area there are currently 95 dental practices accepting adults and children. In addition there are 18 dental practices currently registering children only. Registering with a NHS dentist in your area couldn’t be easier – simply visit the Dental Helpline website at www.hampshiredentalhelpline.nhs.uk or call 0845 050 8345 or 023 8082 8151. If you are housebound and need to be seen in your home, talk to your GP, district nurse or health visitor who will be able to make a referral on your behalf.
