NHS Southampton City and NHS Portsmouth are pleased to announce the
appointment of Alistair Stokes as Independent Chair of the new provider
organisation for Southampton and Portsmouth.
The new Chair has
been appointed for Southampton Community Healthcare and Portsmouth Community and
Mental Health Services during their organisational integration which was
approved by the Strategic Health Authority and the Transaction Board at the
Department of Health in December.
Alistair said of
his new appointment: “I am delighted to have been appointed as Chair for the
integrated provider health organisation. I believe in a single NHS community
provider and the integration of the two cities respective provider arms will
allow us to keep services local and provide patients with improved quality of
care, increased choice and an even better patient
experience.”
Pauline Quan
Arrow, NHS Southampton City Chair said, “I welcome Alistair to the PCT and I
look forward to working with him as he will bring many years of corporate
experience to the position. Alistair will play a key role in the integration of
the two provider arms and will ensure the continued development of our
organisation.”
NHS Southampton City and
NHS Portsmouth Trust Boards gave their approval for the provider arm integration
in November 2009. The integration is an integral part of the transforming
community services programme which aims to improve community health services for patients and
staff.
Alistair has over
30 years of corporate experience including roles as Chair for East Berkshire
Community Health NHS Trust and as a member of East Berkshire Health Authority.
Alistair graduated from the University
of Wales with a BSc and PhD in
