We are committed to Equality and Human Rights and have established a Strategic Equality and Human Rights Steering Group, chaired by a Non-executive Director who has considerable equality and human rights experience. Our obligations under the Equality Act will be focused by this group.
We are guided by a set of clear principles to ensure the organisation’s approach to Equality and Human Rights is at the core of our organisation and is reflected in our policies and practices and within our services.
Under the Race Relations Amendment Act 2000, all public sector bodies are required to have a Race Equality Scheme in place.
The Race Equality Scheme identifies the functions of the organisation and action plans between 2005 and 2008.
Under the Disability Discrimination Act 2005, all public sector authorities are required to have a Disability Equality Scheme in place. The scheme highlights how Southampton City PCT will endeavour to eliminate discrimination and harassment against disabled people, promote positive attitudes and active participation of disabled people, and involve them even if this requires favourable treatment.
