We are here to improve the health and wellbeing of Southampton people. We make sure a range of health services are in place when and where people need them.
NHS Southampton City is responsible for planning and securing quality healthcare services, reducing inequalities and improving the health of the local population.
Southampton City Primary Care Trust (PCT) was established on 1 April 2001 and became the first PCT in England.Southampton City PCT has been working under the concept of ‘one Trust, two businesses’ since summer 2007.
In line with recommendations in Lord Darzi’s NHS Next Stage Review and the NHS Operating Plan, the PCT has now divided into two separated parts of one organisation with a commissioning arm and provider arm.
The Commissioning side of the organisation is NHS Southampton City, which is responsible for investing in health and care services to effectively meet the needs of the City’s population.
