Pocket profiles
The Pocket Profiles are produced to provide a quick reference of comparative indicators of the health of the residents of Southampton. The format of the profile has been designed so that it can be printed off and folded into a credit card sized leaflet.
In the Pocket Profiles the indicators for Southampton are compared with the national average and also with the City’s most similar authorities as defined by the Office for National Statistics 2001 Area Classification. This classification uses demographic and socio-economic characteristics to group together local authorities into clusters. Southampton is in the ‘regional centres’ cluster which also includes Portsmouth, Bristol and Plymouth.
Locality & GP practice profiles
These profiles use a spine chart format to provide a vast array of public health indicators in a summarised format. The three profiles published below summarise key public health information for the three PBC Localities in Southampton City. The gegraphical boundaries of these are shown on the map to the right, but of course patients registered with the practices in the locality may live anywhere within the City or outside.
These new versions of these spine charts were published in September 2010. They are an update on the previous year's profiles and contain some new indicators including estimated prevalence of diabetes and bowel cancer screening uptake.
The guidance document below should help in interpreting the spine chart and also highlights points to note about some of the individuals indicators. If you do require further guidance or would like to make any comments about the profiles please do not hesitate to contact us.
Spine chart profiles have also been produced for each GP practice in the City. Practices can obtain these by contacting the Public Health Information Team (contact details at the bottom of the page).
Ward profiles
Spine chart profiles have also been produced for electoral wards in Southampton. Whilst the locality profiles are based on GP registered populations and data, these profiles have been produced based on the resident population of each ward. The 2010 ward profiles can be downloaded via the link below, and include guidance on interpretation as well a MOSIAC social marketing profile, spine chart and analysis for each of the 16 wards in the city.
